Passive infrared sensors

The Passive Infra Red sensor (PIR) is the most commonly used detection device in a burglar alarm system. It is cost effective and normally covers an area of around 15m x 15m and therefore it is the preferred choice to protect a room, office or an open space. The PIR detects motion of a body which temperature differs from the ambient temperature. This type of sensor  combined with a microwave sensor housed in one unit, is used to protect an outside area or to descriminate between a human body and a small animal.
